Dr Vinod Prakash Sharma receives Gujar Mal Modi Award for Innovative Science & Technology 2013
Dr Vinod Prakash Sharma was awarded the ‘Gujar Mal Modi Award for Innovative Science & Technology 2013’ on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Late Rai Bahadur Gujar Mal Modi. The renowned scientist received the award for his outstanding achievements in malaria research, control and prevention, including other vector borne diseases. The award was announced during a ceremony held at Shri Sathya Sai Auditorium, New Delhi. The scientist received a cash prize of Rs 2,01,000, a scroll of honour and a silver shield.
Union Minister for Science and Technology, S Jaipal Reddy sent his greetings and said, “I congratulate the Gujar Mal Modi Science Foundation for continuing with its noble endeavour.” He also congratulated Dr Sharma for his outstanding efforts in the field in malaria research, control and prevention, as well as other vector borne diseases.
Dr Sharma is a scientist of international repute known for his work and contribution in the field of basic and applied research of malaria and vector biology. He is spearheading the ‘Safe Water’ campaign that was launched by the National Academy of Sciences, India during the Year of Science. His work on popularisation of science, creating awareness and science education programmes of NASI are widely appreciated, including in very remote areas.
Speaking on the occasion, S K Modi, President of the G.M. Modi Foundation, was full of admiration and praise for the eminent scientist and restated his dedication towards research in the field of science and technology. “A malariologist like Dr Sharma is to be credited for bringing the nation at the frontier of the international scientific community.
