HKCP organises one-day national seminar on ‘Advances in Instrumentation and Application’

Maharashtra Educational Society’s, HK College of Pharmacy (HKCP) recently organised a national seminar on ‘Advances in Instrumentation and Applications along with poster competition’ in association with Shimadzu Analytical (India). The seminar was held at the institute’s auditorium in Jogeshwari (W), Mumbai. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr Nandkumar G Bhilare, Head-Quality Operations, Rubicon Research, who was the chief guest. As per the theme of seminar, sessions were arranged by Dr Pratap Rasam, Senior manager and Dr Ajit Datar, Advisor from Shimadzu Analytical (India).

Dr Anubha Khale, Principal, HKCP, greeted the audience and appreciated the delegates coming from out of Mumbai (Nasik, Nandurbar, Yeola, Karjat) and congratulated the participants who have come all the way for poster competition.

The key note address was given by Bhilare, who included the importance of knowing recent advances of instrumental analysis especially with API and dosage form evaluation. He emphasised on knowing newer techniques and their application in finding minute details of compound such as polymorphism where instruments like hot stage microscopy and infra red microscopy were utilised to find the polymorph of the compound. He also added that the actual need of pharma industry is little different than the academic knowledge.

Rasam gave a brief introduction of activities (Presale and Post sale) happening in customer support Centre of Shimadzu Analytical (India). He also mentioned that Shimadzu is working in collaboration with some academic institutes to strengthen the technical knowledge. Datar explained the importance of interactive participation for such seminars.

Post inauguration session was handled by application chemists of Shimadzu Analytical. All participants covered analytical techniques, its basics and applications which included UV-Visible spectroscopy by Sampada Khopkar, FTIR spectroscopy by Amit Joshi, Gas Chromatography by Durvesh Sawant, High Performance Liquid Chromatography by Deepti Bhandarkar.

The poster competition saw 46 participants, which were evaluated by Dr Supriya Mahajan, Professor, CU Shah College of Pharmacy; Dr Vaishali Shirsat, Associate Professor, Bombay College of Pharmacy; Dr Rakesh Somani, HOD, Associate Professor,VES College of Pharmacy; Vineeta Khanvilkar, Associate Professor, BVP’s College of Pharmacy, Navi Mumbai. Participants were awarded with prizes.
