Christopher A Viehbacher resigns as Sanofi’s CEO

Serge Weinberg to fulfill jointly, on a temporary basis, the functions of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Directors of Sanofi in a recently held meeting has decided unanimously to remove Christopher A Viehbacher as the Chief Executive Officer of Sanofi. As a consequence Viehbacher resigned as a director of Sanofi.
According to the company press release, the Board of Directors thanked Viehbacher for all the work done during the last six years, which has enabled the group to move through a sensitive and important transition phase.
Going forward, the group needs to pursue its development with a management aligning the teams, harnessing talents and focusing on execution with a close and confident cooperation with the Board.
The Board confirms its commitment to continuing the strategy and the international expansion of the group based on research and innovation and its growth platforms.
Pending the decision on the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer, the Board asked Serge Weinberg to fulfill jointly, on a temporary basis, the functions of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. As soon as a new Chief Executive Officer will be appointed, the group’s governance will return to a Chairman and a separate Chief Executive Officer.
